With balance fixes to many of the skills and items, they have opened up new builds previously thought not optimal enough for the meta. With the development of their mod, there has been one clear goal in mind: continue to support and update the game while remaining true to the original experience.
While some mods have converted Diablo II into almost an entirely new game, PD2’s approach has been to remain true to the experience we loved all those nights ago. Project Diablo 2 launched last year with their first season, titled Awakening, and while this wasn’t the first mod for the classic, it has proved to be something special. With their hard work and passion they sought to create something worthy of the Diablo II name. While most people moved on to other franchises, and a few stuck with the sequel doing endless Rift runs, a small but dedicated part of the community returned to its predecessor. Twelve years later, its sequel, Diablo III, released with mixed reviews and a community that felt let down by developers. With online play and numerous characters builds to explore, we played late into the night seeking more. Twenty years ago we all booted up our home computers and collectively fell in love with one game, Diablo II.
